Tommy Morrison


Tommy Morrison is a bassoonist with a passion for collaboration and learning. A Northern New Jersey native, Tommy has participated in a wide array of performing opportunities throughout Europe and the United States. Since Fall 2017, he has been serving in the role of principal bassoon with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra and Hawaii Opera Theater. He is a founding member of the Noctua Wind Quintet, an ensemble that has garnered top prizes from the Fischoff, Coleman, and Yellow Springs chamber music competitions. As an orchestral player, Tommy has performed with the Alabama Symphony, the LA Opera, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New World Symphony. He has been a fellow at the Music Academy of the West, the Britten-Pears Programme, the Atlantic Music Festival, and the Moritzburg Festival Akademie.
As an educator, Tommy has taught both privately and in group settings. He has experience working with all levels of playing, from starting the instrument to preparing for conservatory auditions. He maintained a private studio in Los Angeles and has taught at schools in the greater Houston area.
Tommy holds degrees from Rice University Shepherd School of Music and the Colburn School. His principal teachers include Benjamin Kamins, Richard Beene, and Marc Goldberg.
